When you're interacting with others on Between Teens,
you're more than likely chatting with another teen - but what about other
sites? How do you know if the person you're chatting with really is who they
say they are? With so many cases of luring these days, you have to be extra
careful when giving information over the Internet (in fact, you really
shouldn't give out any personal info!). Here are some good tips to know to keep
you safe online.
1) DO NOT give out personal info such as name, age, address, phone number,
school, town, passwords, schedules or any information that could allow someone
to pinpoint your location (don't even give out the name of your school sports
team).
2) DO NOT agree to meet in person with anyone you have spoken to online.
3) DO NOT respond to messages that are mean, suggestive or in any way make you
feel uncomfortable.
4) DO let someone know (your parents) about anything you saw that is upsetting
or if someone you're talking to online makes you feel uncomfortable.
